...we've been waiting to host the slow poisoner for awhile, and this
is the night~ eiliyas played here last night, and if you didn't see
him, you should come. he's touring around this fine city right now
taking in sun and sounds.

also our friends howardamb are up first - so come early... and
neptunabis will round out the night...

circuit bent madness! there is more today and tonight, but we got to
go yesterday - electrifying~...

i can't wait to host more bent events.. we also got a book on circuit
bending for the shop - but only one, so check it out next time you're
at the front. you might get hooked...

tomorrow is the druid short film night - don't want to miss that -
burgess is taking submissions for his evenings, so talk to him if you
are interested.

the bent night here thursday was truly hot. and the people who are
into this art are really willing to explain their rigs - their process
- it is a very learnable thing, and once you know a little, people's
work unfolds into so many dimensions because you have an understanding
of what pieces they use.

most artists who play here, or who are in the sub-underground life,
are that way though. approachable, humble. i really enjoy this
place, and the people who come here...superhonored to have hosted that
event.

so maybe we'll see you tonight or tomorrow or soon.

tonight is the cd release for this experimental group, and promises to be a great event.

we had an inspection here and we made it thru! this is a very exciting thing which we luckily over-prepared for, and regardless the place looks great.

i am mildly amused / mystified by the recent tricks people are playing with show moving, but it is a waste of time and unfair to the artists who actually just want to play a show here.

there is no monolithic "noise" community, as there is no way to categorize every identity people have in their lives.

my loyalty to "the" noise community i believe has been misused by a few, and it is the people who think for themselves and actually know what is going on that i applaud.

i do not have any reason, nor did i ever, to work on keeping that "community" in this space other than my appreciation for the art and the people who i have met who make noise that are amazing. i love noise - many of the people i have met thru shows i consider dear friends. i've hosted many many noise shows here. i am willing to continue giving my energy to this community, and i do not ask for anything other than honest reciprocation of committment.

there are many people who make noise that i still respect immensely - and those i don't - particulary a michael f. who had the audacity to recently ask me for another show while leading people we had booked here to another venue. that is slimy and disconcerting. especially since he was not the person who originally had anything to do with this show, and the other people on the bill were rightly offended at his actions.

i was approached by these trusted friends who had touring bands coming thru, and set up the show even tho we are trying to focus only on saturdays because we can't work as much as we used to. these people are good people who wanted to play a show. why did michael do this to them? it doesn't affect me, other than it's wasting my time and energy, but those other artists - his community - what about them? why is he doing this to them?

because we have friends who were on the bill- we luckily found out that the touring bands had been convinced to move - but who was going to tell us? michael says it wasn't his responsibility to inform us because he had nothing to do with booking the show here in the first place. he's very right. why is he doing anything with a bill he had nothing to do with? this is absolutely ridiculous.

i'm not sure what the people who put forth friendship then write daggered email really hope to achieve from these choices, but there is a vast city here named after angels that has many spaces that will gladly host them - making it completely unnecessary for them to ever set foot in the il corral again. i would imagine common sense makes this apparent, and i encourage that with every ounce of effort.
if there is a greivance so profound that vengence is in order, it might be healthier for everyone to either communicate or leave. one or the other.

the petty back-stabbing by booking shows then moving them needs to stop. it makes things hard on everyone. the world is so full of positive possibilities - choose them and everyone can go on with their lives as they wish.

the artists of these many communities - "noise" or "experimental" groups - deserve more respect from the populus at large, but that may never happen. if these marginalized arts never receive this right recognition, they at least deserve the respect of their own.

they were here rehearsing last night,
and apparently the la weekly printed their last year's schedule for this weekend!

randy came over early with the paper. he said they had gotten the wednesday show right.

so dung mummy has a great show tonight, but not the three-day festival as in the paper. (my guess is that when someone checked our website www.ilcorral.net they hit our archive page instead of our calendar...so i think the site could be changed to make that less possible in the future....)

ilcorral.net has always just been black on white so the evolution to the drop of html now there is pretty tech. it might be a good idea if i work on making it more accessible. so that's on the list of things to do! so much going on these days!

and i emailed the weekly, so they can have our most recent information.

last night was a success - musically - and for the cause!

kraig grady, our own cory beers, and kris tiner opened (i can't wait to see them this coming tuesday here); their sounds are always a pleasure to take in and let circulate thru subtlety.

the transhumans were exceptional, and you should read the drummer bob's writings! they are joining us in noisepollination - il corral's summer noise extravaganza - put on by steve of +dog+. i was so glad to hear them, and get to know them more.

work then graced us with spacious, sweet melodic interludes before tik-tik blasted the place! tik-tik gives it all. rad movement.

+dog+ throttled every body in the room with some excellent formations of sonic wizardry, and were so good they were almost dangerous. the schults brothers ended the evening with some finely honed, free-then-formed luscious sounds.

i had a wonderful night.

thank you everyone who was involved! with this night, and all the ones before. so many people have helped get this sound system together. it has been a great challenge, but we're almost completely done!

the amp benefit (appropriately named) has enabled us to get the necessary piece for the sound system!

for every show, bands and crowds pull together miracles of organization and communal trust, but last night was really amazing for me. it is nights like that which keep me going. the artists deserve it! the people deserve it! and i am thrilled to be here to help make it possible.

we are meeting more and more neighborhood people who discover us like a secret. it feels like the literal blossoming of some rare petalled thing. il corral is very lucky to be surrounded by the power of such gentle, engaged creativity.

so the plates have broken up to form continents separated by oceans,and things will evolve in their own way apart from each other.

sean has found another host for his monday nights, and we appreciate his time here. he was very generous and worked immensely hard. i am sad that he is gone.

the inevitable result of change is to have some people fall thru the
cracks. i suppose it is the fate of a space such as this to have
consistant rumblings from inside or out that move it - perpetually to
something new - but i am sorry for any inconvenience or sorrow.
usually our needs here are based more in the logistics of survival,
yet emotional resiliance is necessary to make ends meet as well.

there seems to be a great sentimentality regarding the past, the
mulchy origins of this place, and perhaps it was easier to break and
form anew than to bridge and brace against inevitable evolution.
it is very simple.

this is an amazing space, but it is just a space. it was founded by
people with the ideals and the lack of experience that anyone has at
first. it has been kept alive by those same people plus me. and now
my partner and i plus two new people are here to care for the space.
all of the 'drama' has been very exhausting, and i am proud of the
space - that it still stands. you are part of that, and i appreciate
that.

we have been involved since the beginning, i joined a couple months
after the first show. we do not have the income that earlier people
involved had. we have a humble life selling second chance books. in
order to have this space continue we have to ensure its sustainability
thru a strong collective system. things are different now.

nostalgia junkies will have much to pay tribute to. that is one of the
most beautiful things of life.
and we can hope that they can eventually experience what is hosted
here again...just listen to art...

sean is a great producer, and i know he will be very happy. we were
lucky to have him, even though his shows were some of the most
challenging.

as for il corral, i hope you enjoy it, and continue to make it your
own.

after hearing what happened to sean when he was in his neighborhood...

i feel helpless - wishing i could help him - and am shocked into realizing how safe we think we are...

i think the breaking and blood, despite the jovial beastish fun, was too much for him between getting mugged and getting shot at with something.

he has been very brave. he is on my list of people to wish health to. my grandfather may pass on soon and he is far away right now. i am lucky to know he is with loved ones, but it is still hard.

thank you everyone who helped out during that show which are the many people sean mentioned, but so many more, because whenever anything happens people are so on it. i hope no one thinks anyone is upset at them. we just need to be more careful - like when we got the warning from the community before.

we simply must be aware - to think for tomorrow and the next - creating our own with passion toward sustainability.

apart from my love for love, and the fact that i was born today, i maintain my belief that valentines is more than the hallmarkian scheme which can make anyone cynical. it is a time to tell people what they mean to you. to spread and share love.

the sunday before - with excellent documentaries by the druid underground - then valentines gay, a little too rowdy for our own good perhaps, but celebratory regardless, now make the quiet of mundane things another kind of challenge.

we still need $1924 to finish the sound system. we have ordered it, but it will be shipped in parts as the house can afford. this system has five year warrantees on it, and it is excellent equipment. we've made a great investment in our future.

we just had a huge water bill to pay that set us back a bit, so that is disheartening, but it means we need to work harder than ever to finish the pa.

sometimes i don't know how i make it. i credit my interest in the bodhisattva perspective of life to my longevity despite adversity, but i practice in small ways what is based on such high ideals, possibly unattainable for one living in the city, in a world run on money.

obviously i am a humble culture rat and my contributions to the evolution of the world are debatable. i try every moment i can. i try for myself to cultivate these practices.

just recently a noise artist i was excited to host had to cancel due to complications in march. i am disappointed, but i think that date is going to be perfect for a visual artist reception. if not that then another time. i am in no rush.

i lost all my photos of the place when the password was changed, but i will think of it as a new start. the password was apparently changed on january 29th. i read an email on the 30th that stated so. this was after i had been unable to login with the il corral i.d. since i had posted about the benefit. bob has apparently not been able to reset the password with his knowledge, so i have counted it off as a sign to move forward.

sean let everyone know how well the benefit was supported, and also about the article in the times. we discussed at yesterday's house meeting that he would also send something out to the yahoo group letting everyone know that we have changed to google groups.

i haven't explored the new setup very much yet, but it seems more interactive for the group members (i guess you can make your own pages etc.)

i wanted to post about ladies night! we have some fabulous and enthusiastic performers, and already we're getting a donation of 8 brand new dresses! we're going to be having a benefit for killradio.org sometime soon as well. and i'm working on getting a vegan informance night together (learn & eat & hear some music) so if there are any vegan bands or bands who support the cause who would like to do a benefit please contact me.

also, i have finally been able to email a little bit with bob, and for the record he has admirably returned the speakers that were donated to the corral, and the donation money we had paid to him for the p.a.. i do believe he tried to help us with the yahoo group problem.

i apologize that i had to process all of this experience in public, but i didn't know how else to defend this place.

i had a situation in school where i was put into a much bigger public/media realm than i was ready for and i felt that i did not defend my cause adequately. i am shy of media because of this, and it was very hard for me to be brave enough to address the group, but i had come to know the people and i felt that it was something i could do for the space since no one else could. i told the truth about the money, and if my outrage at the accusations was too much i apologize. i was terribly hurt by this whole event.

if i did the wrong thing at any time it has not been my intention. even the silly posts on the noise board were just some relieving sense of poetic justice.

what we do here is really hard. i am trained to read and write poetry not business agreements, but if we as 'artists' want to continue to keep this place open for 'artists' then we have to do everything. we have to be the bouncer, the recycler, we have to work the door, we have to clean up, check email, update the site, keep the bills up to date etc. it's just us, and a few other devoted volunteers when they can help. that's it.

i am not at all perfect, but i learned so much from bob, and he was always much older than us, more established financially and world wise. he called us the kids. we went thru great steps to make sure the place could continue after he left in september. we have done a lot of work on the place, and when he came back for turn the screws he helped. and then came all of the rest of the history which is why his email was so shocking and sad.

as i have said, i forgive him. and i wish him well of course, but he is not welcome here now. it is too fresh a wound, and still i do not understand why he did it. there would have to be time...for everyone...to heal.

if i am weak in this regard i apologize, but i can only do so much.

right now we have our new pa coming! it should begin to arrive wednesday and we'll have the core set. there are still other components necessary which we will need to raise money for, but i don't know if people want updates on that or not. sean has said people are tired of hearing about money. i would have wished to simply be able to provide a pa, but it was something that we had to go to the community for help with. and you helped with stellar response! thank you.

i find it hard to believe this happened on its own, i received an email from yahoo that the password was changed on january 29th. it makes sense considering the situation that has gone on, but i'm worn out from this situation. apparently it's no one's doing.

our three-event night is this saturday; i hope you can come.

i am listening to stockhausen right now and it is blowing me away. there are many projects that i can hear strands of him in, and i'm so busy now that the email and the website are returned to us again, and we've recently gotten another $100 or so in donations!...i know i will have to wait to learn more about his life until my own subsides, but i'm so curious after spending hours today hearing his sounds.

there is revolution in it because it is going beyond what people consider acceptable as art or music. i think tho that i have been immersed in the thick of it now and have my interests in particular areas, but i can feel the rush of solid loud or the movement of sonic repetition and appreciate them for what they are. i guess we all have our favorites, things that hit us just right.

from all sights there is no more 'drama' on the horizon, so i am enjoying the return to synchronicity.

thank you everyone for kind words, or donations, or bringing extra equipment when you play. we have weathered this amazingly well, and it is to your credit.

the slow healing

things are going along here now.

tonight was fun with close friends, it was relieving.

i wish none of this had happened, but our community meeting was successful, and we're meeting again tommorrow to get ready for the show, discuss the progress of the sound system, and clean.

beyond the accounting for the income from turn the screws, after reminding bob of his glitches early on as 'house accountant' when he neglected to recognize that stane put an extra $2000 deposit on the place, i think he understands that there has never been a foundation for his accusations.

i have been told that he has written that he regrets sending the email, but i do not know the particulars. the damage is done, it is too bad. my heart breaks over and over, but i wish him well.

the results from the house meeting (stane, sean, cory, burgess and i) are stellar.

we have never met collectively in a manner such as this, so i look forward to that being the beginning of a practice instead of only a reaction to a disaster.

this has left us all very exhausted, but now is when we have to work the hardest.

tonight seemed to bring back the normalcy. just the passing of time seems to do that as well. hearing people rehearse and now having stane give his weekly music lesson, makes this place alive again for me. hopeful. stable. supported. even tho we didn't know it was opening night at the theater next door...we're supposed to check their schedule...and they said we were really drowning them out...yikes...

but again, out of that stepping on toes comes the conclusion that i should just put the theater's schedule on the rehearsal calendar so people know when the plays are going on. it's a simple thing that would prevent any conflict with the people next door, but we only recently decided we needed even a rehearsal calendar, so everything is evolution.

i am excited to share the results of our changes, out of ashes, and i must be brave.

the truth

recent events have gone from bad to funny.

it's funny that we are accused of embezzling by the one person who would know that we absolutely did not do anything of the sort. the one person who has seen us work all hours to frantically make ends meet.

i have never been on the iheartnoise board until yesterday. and i will not go on it again.

despite the initial feelings of betrayal and justified outrage at the false accusations put forth by someone who i thought was family, i realize that this issue of ownership of the p.a. has been contentious since this place started.

the p.a. has always been someone else's. we have been reminded of this daily, and it has been used to support all manner of power structures, which rightly were in place since it was after all, someone else's p.a. but after bob left with no word and his thumbprint on $90 cash that we gave him from a donation, i realized that he doesn't want us to have his p.a.

he agreed with me to a verbal contract of payment in the amount of $2700 with installments of $500 a month. as the person who is now responsible for the il corral, i thought that was expensive yes, but it would allow us to continue doing shows without any break, and bob was the most trusted person. i should have gotten it in writing i guess. i am naive.

i have never been accused of anything as gross as this. it is very confusing since bob has always wanted all the money to go to the house, yet when we try to sustain the place, the utilities and rent, through the income of the house, we are 'hippie capitalists'. when we have shows that don't make enough to cover the house, we eat it. the last show i booked for the noise community made $25 and i put in the other $25 to make the $50 for the house.

the most hilarious thing, which i think previously would have just destroyed me, are the personal attacks from total strangers - do they even have jobs... ha ha,... this is so funny. these people are operating on one lying email. and i have to say it - he lied. he lied publically to a significant number of people, and knowingly tried to bring us to our knees. and for what reason?

when it all comes down to it, after the $90 that bob left with after exiting our contract of friendship and business and everything imaginable, there is $30 from turn the screws remaining.

he lied knowingly about the money in a sloppy email and destroyed whatever future we could have had with him over $30.

i don't want to talk about these things. in the past i have only said positive things about bob, and thought that his moods were just something to be weathered since it was afterall his p.a. and i never imagined that he would have any reason to destroy this place, i thought he was the core, that he believed in what he was doing.

when i first started experiencing noise i thought it was a revolution. noise is just another genre. the people on that posting board are still bands with amps and tours and press and egos and dreams and faults. this place runs on money just like any other place, and when it comes down to it - the one with the money or the p.a. or will win. and that is what happened.

you can kick us and pull the plug and slander us all you want and we will still go on with the space because i do this for the ephemeral cause we all talk about. and people still need you to buy their merch don't they. revolution costs money doesn't it. wait, what kind of revolution are we talking about.

is it different because it is so esoteric and sounds like 'a fire alarm' to the passerby?

it is a genre that is built on the same structures of touring and getting your work out there and having people buy your label. the fact that no one gets paid, that the places who host these artists are struggling, is that what we are all so smug about. we don't do anything for money. artists don't like money. but someone has to pay the rent. someone has to be here and spend their time doing all of this.

why am i doing it? it's not for myself. i've made 25 copies of a cd and it helped pay for our tour on the road as we sold it. other than that i've given away my own work. i don't have anything to prove here. i don't think it's that big of a deal. everyone makes music or sound or art. everyone i know anyway, those tend to be the people i have some great conversations with.

the truth of the matter is that bob was there when the bathroom was a mess and we called in the emergency plumbers during turn the screws. bob knows that bill was hundreds of dollars, and he knows that we cut a personal check that day for it. the house has no checking account, the house could not have paid for that $330 bill, the house has our meager income if anything goes wrong. so even if we hadn't paid him off $400 for the water bill, and even if we hadn't given $150 to the house for the three nights of shows, he had absolutely no grounds for accusing us of a four digit figure. he knew better. he knew and he lied.

i would never have brought up any of this if my integrity was not so brutally accused. and i don't care about my personal self. i am not in this world to be famous, i am here to work, but what he did compromised the integrity of all that we had worked so hard on.

i don't want to tell people i put my own money in when shows don't have a turn out. it's embarassing. it's bad business and i don't have the extra money. we barely get by each month. but i'm not here for the money. all of this was just part of keeping this place going no matter what.

this situation has helped to clarify the world in very important ways. if this place is to continue right now it depends on me, and these other people who are committed.

the revolution seemed to be that we were doing this without any recognition or support from mainstream culture. but now i realize that the multiplicity of sub-cultures we host here are simply made up of people with fears and hopes and egos, and can manifest the same cancerous attitudes and practices of the status-quo(s) we attempt to operate outside of.

i thought we were doing something great. and we did. and we are. but i feel like the captain of the squad has turned to fire on the troops. and here i am bloody. here is the il corral full of holes at the feet of the great leader.

no corporate entity could have done this to us. we didn't get shut down by the cops. we didn't miss a rent check. the strike came from inside. never never never would have expected this.

i am sad that so much time will be wasted on this debaucle. it reeks of bad politics and campaign ad spin. but this place is not questionable, and the people who want to come here and have a good time still will.

i have learned well that no one is above reproach. i have also learned that people will smile when they have snakes in their mind. i have never learned this lesson so well as now. i am changed from this. i will not foster the mistrust he bred in this community. i am hurt from it. i wish it were different, and it was blatantly wrong and inflammatory, but what worse could happen now?

those who trust and love the il corral will continue to. those who do not will not come. and if they do come, because they can't find a show elsewhere in l.a. and they need money to put in their gas tank like every other act on tour, they will smile with snakes in their mind, and i will be fooled. and i forgive bob for putting these slithering words into the minds of so many, but the only way i can go on is to let go of him and his strange slander.

i don't know what to say. it is disgusting that all of this has been put forth into the public realm, but i feel that it is important to speak out - to say the truth - and if my small voice can reach people to let them know the real situation here, i hope that everyone can make decisions thru their own experience. if we have done wrong to you, cast us off - if we have been good to you, please be patient while we regroup.

so after the $25 i gave the house for the low turn out show there is $5 left. i have done that on many occasions...there is no justification for a $1000 slander.

if you want to help us rebuild, you are very welcome and we have $398 toward a house p.a. growing everyday. you don't have to give anything. you give enough coming here and having satisfying experiences to share. but if you want to help us get a solid p.a. for the il corral that will be owned by the il corral, you can.

to everyone regardless, i am sorry that this ever had to be in your psyches. and thank you so much to all the people who are pulling together after this unfortunate outburst.

i will work as long and hard as i can to help make this place great for you.

i've never felt so betrayed in my life.

and yet now i feel so free. we don't have the looming dread of bob's mood.
the worst has happened already now.
(the worst at least to a space where music is played and relies on a sound system.)

and we have to do whatever we are going to do on our own.

beyond personal hurt tho, it is all the artists that suffer, and the people who want to see them, the people already planning to come...what is to be done? why has he done this to us? it is so out of character.

i can't dwell on it, and none of us can. we can't afford to if we are to keep going forward. the details of his breakdown are not of importance right now.

first of all, there is no rush.

if we try to scrape together a p.a. for every show, we will never be able to make enough money to buy our own for the house. the fate of these upcoming shows will be dealt with tonight.

there are many ideas people have for trying to make this place sustain itself economically, and the reality is that the shows will never do that. we have to develop the space more so that it is stable enough to support shows that are not paying for themselves. either we individually have to become more wealthy, or the space has to be rented for money. the first is as likely as getting a sunburn at the bottom of the ocean, and the second will require new efforts.

the problem with what bob did was that he undermined the whole space. he even locked me out of the email and website. talk about tying someone's hands while you scream at them for not working fast enough. the great hero and friend slitting the wrist of the il corral...

perhaps i was wrong in trying to continue il corral in bob's footsteps, because now i know how human he is - he doesn't know everything, and he has faults. i knew this but now i know that he too is ruled by emotion. it has given me new insight into my own random position here. responsible for so much that i never thought of, and living such a graced life surrounded by art, i wonder if this is my purpose. i suppose as most people wonder. but this has brought great hurt and trouble that has caught me so off guard.

i know no one will ever hear me because bob's voice is much louder and carries farther, but i will still speak out, only because it is not right for him to say such things that hurt this place, regardless of stane or i.

it would not matter if it had not hurt this place. and i can only do what i can do now. and i will do whatever i can.

i just read a book called petey. it is a story about two boys. petey and trevor.

petey was born with cerebral palsy in the 20's and misdiagnosed as an 'idiot'. he grew up in a mental institution. unable to communicate the growing thoughts in his 'deformed and twisted' body, he came to mark time as patterns of light from his locked crib. seasons passed. years passed.

because people didn't know that his mind was developing while his body was spastic and his tongue could not form words, they did not treat him as a person, but as an incoherant ward to change and feed. he had not even been outdoors since he was left at the institution. despite his mother's urgent attempts to live with his condition, he was committed to the state at the age of two. he spent nine years inside, not seeing the trees, not smelling anything but excrement and lye.

the book follows his life thru people who care for him and notice his spark of life. it starts with a bit of chocolate or a toy gun. a tender worker builds a relationship and can communicate with him. always they leave. he has no family.

it is important to note that throughout the narrative, petey is joyous. tho he goes thru his periods of depression and feels exceedingly vulnerable to a distant world that controls him when he cannot control himself, he is celebratory of the many small experiences he has. they accumulate in his vast sensory recollection and in his shoe box of belongings.

trevor is a young boy in a new school. he saves petey from bullies pelting his wheelchair with snowballs, and petey decides trevor will be his friend. trevor goes thru the horror of seeing petey, and reacts as most people do upon first meeting him, but comes to understand him thru the help of a caring nurse.

the two end as grandfather and grandson in the hospital where petey will soon pass
on. trevor's family is reunited after overworking and neglecting his feelings, and one is left with tears brimming.

one is left with the question however, "if petey can do this why can't i?". the grotesquerie of his features and lot seem to magnify his bliss at any positive experience. he is a fully present and sensing being. he is also completely compassionate.

the descriptions of his first trip to the grocery store at eighty, as he asks what everything is since he has never seen any of these objects before, are exquisite. he is delighted by everything.

he is selfless, devoted to his friends despite distance and time, and infuses everyone around him with vitality that speaks wisdom and kindness thru the eyes.

he is forced to contemplate. to just be and sense. and he is helpless without constant watch, yet so strong in soul. trevor is also a positive force to be reckoned with.

after taking petey out on many occassions having to bring duct tape to keep his wheelchair together, trevor is determined to get him a new one.

the cost is three thousand dollars.

trevor is only a boy on a bike, but he collects coffee cans and puts them up in local shops with petey's picture for donations, he goes to the paper and they write a story about his life, and finally he convinces the medical company to take only two thousand dollars because of the tremendous effort the whole community has put forth, and petey gets his new chair.

i don't have a lot of time to read. having a bookshop, you'd think it would be natural, but i only piece thru everything, never finishing. (not since the deluge of grad school anyway)... and this book was just great.

it is for ages 10 and up, so the print is really big, and it feels a little silly reading a kids book on the bus, but i didn't care.

i feel like reading rainbow...

this was a wonderfully anarchic jolly time. sean and richmond dropped in to give gifts and greetings. we made newspaper snow and a holiday album playing art facist. we drank vegan nog, ate treats, had a feast of beans and squash and despite my burning the pears, everything was fun and warm and celebratory.

as i have mentioned, we are having a series of benefit shows to raise money to buy the p.a.

initially, we had thought it would be $2000, but that was if we could come up with all of the money at once...which we can't.

so the total is going to be $2700 paid for in parts.

this is a significant amount of money, and we have many other ways to help us with this cause. we are always looking for people interested in organizing events to help us raise funds, that is not our particular talent here.

as of now, when you donate at our shows, for beverages or whatever, when you go online and get il corral stickers, 40bands80minutes dvds, or our monthly passes: all this money will go toward making sure we can keep the place open and pay for the p.a.

and now our benefit shows, curated by sean carnage and i, start Saturday January 27 with anavan and khm in some incarnation...later shows will be featuring moment trigger, and others...watch the website, or the yahoo group postings for information and the process will unfold here as always...

hence the pictures are now more frequent...i'd like to be able to document every performer, but i keep running out of batteries (list of things to get: rechargable batteries)...

so last night was rad music, and a fun final exam from the creekbird lectures, which josh taylor won (his prize, a photo with creekbird and a $60 cash prize to go toward learning something). his special accomplishment, which apparently none of us could do, was properly organize the anagram rock n roll...(i don't recall what the mess of words looked like that you had to do this with, but i assure you, i did not get any of them right)...

our next show here is thursday, organized by our own wonderful david kendall, it will be epic.

so i will keep taking pictures, i'm just learning on this camera, but i do love it, so hopefully i'll get better and you can enjoy the memories of where you might have been or were some night...

tonight was absolutely wonderful, bob's birthday party, but as many people remarked, deeply sad as well...

bob is leaving us for tour then more tour then portland, adventure as bobby appleseed speading love and noise...

i am getting teary now thinking of it, and i had remained so brave tonight...

there is no one to replace him, and i have learned more lessons of life and living thru and with him, he is a dynamo unmatched, and i envy portland for getting him, but he will be free then to return as a touring artist, always the most welcomed artist in residence as well...

hazel will be staying with us, and i have already bawled once over her eventual leaving as well...she is my dearest little buddha fuzz friend, and is a delight, tho she may not seem so (as so many people have had run ins with her growly side) she is a tender and intelligent creature whom i will miss minute by minute once she is gone...

tho neither of these living beings will be residing here in permanence any longer, they will visit, and always be present in vision, and have two people that are eagerly joining in for september.

tonight was an exceptional experience of community...i won't try to describe it with words; i am so glad we all got together to share the joy and loss...we are stronger because of it...

there is no doubt that what bob has contributed to will thrive as he would wish it to, tho to be without him will be a sorrow as this place is memory upon memory of him...he will be sorely missed, and always welcome...

we have two new people on the il corral ship: burgess & cory b. ...... thank you to all the people who tried to pull together money for the place or figure things out... i think we've determined the best for all!

i will be taking care of the site and emailing and such, so hopefully after september that consolidation will ease our misfired bookings that occurred far too often, but almost always with good-hearted understanding on everyone's part. and please be patient with me...we are getting a lot of email and it takes time...

this is an endeavor we do for the sake of community and art and the general betterment of our corner of the world, we try, and i hope people feel free to donate time and energy or even resources to our space...as they already have...

phil's birthday came and went...the duo night...it has been wall throbbing and sweet vegan cupcake duets, but i can't do any of it justice...so i apologize, and fail and accept that awkwardly, but still with a firm understanding of my capabilities...

it was a fun experiment, but planning tour is taking over,...paying the rent is taking over, so it has to be much more work now than writing....

someday, when i can afford a digital camera i can truly document one aspect that makes recreating a scene with words all the more easier...i miss my camera immensely....i feel so much more drawn to the visual arts lately, feeling so dangerously clumsy with words...

i was thinking tonight that i was so happy books on tape was going to play the 19th coming up because i cannot help but dance (even if it's just in the hallway) when i hear, and i just got spirited up this night i guess, but sea otter is one great show~so i had a great time, being an idiot and dancing and 'flailinwhenyawanna' (which is my particular style...) heh heh

glad to be introduced to him and everyone tonight... the north cities of california have so much talent it's fabulous, we're lucky to live where we do on the spine of this thriving experimental thruway...

it's funny, sometimes, you don't know why, if it's the weather, or you've had a lot of whatever you drink...for me it's coffee or tea...but you just hear something at a show and it catches you and you can't help but give up to it... i feel like it's the ultimate combination of compliment and divine luck...it says you dig someone's sounds but it also means something moved you,

and not everyone dances anyway...moreso in clubs where 'everyone' in the room is 'dancing' to dj's or live music that is for dancing in certain schools of training and such...

movement is art. dancing is art. it is as innate to the human experience as dreaming, and is as misunderstood and ephemeral...

raven and johnny did a fabulous noise set with bass and violin, liam mooney played shop vacs thru tubes and made the most exquisite piercing cricket orchestral tones i've ever heard...

our own bob bellerue.halfnormal and wanda gala did a prom possession piece while showering water and noise from above fell into contorted electric horn poses...

wire nuts fixed our electrical outlet in the feedback pedal bent scapes, and now we have the most undeniably rockin rocket night light plugged into the most useful art installation at the il corral....

laco$te will play again soon, they were not well tonight...

holloy, mtn. home and shag tapestry accompanied the delectibles...

holloy is three drummers and the most deep electric strings, mtn. home (s.f.) and shag tapestry (s.d.) both strings and vox...really earth harmonic and resonant, wafting on the scents from the kitchen... this is the second time joshua has graced us with vegan delicacies, and his cuisine shows such a vision for flavor, it is a rare treat...

thanx to sean for bringing him again...hope to host him on his next pass thru town...

i can't wait to see them up at the ice cream parlor (scoops, our vegan friendly neighborhood culinary artist culture spot)

it's amazing in there~...we just visited...

this first band the singer is now playing lefthanded guitar which is neat, good radio sound...digital leather...a three piece.... then another three the munchers (liked the vocals alot)...then kate and friends as crowned (great show with video too) ...top drawer...then cock in black (sweet noise collaboration)........................................................................

i don't think i like writing about bands because it's not something i know a lot about...but there are some shows i'm super into (biased) obviously they get to come here tho because i like them, so that's kind of silly (as if i should be a more wide-sighted visionary) and it's not like i get to just sit back and pay complete attention to the show because i'm thinking about all the logistics of it...when i do though i can have some genuine experiences that are so moving i have to explain them, communicate them somehow...so i hope no one ever takes offense that i don't list them, or i didn't get to hear their set properly...i try my hardest...

so arriving on our doorstep an hour or so before the show... snoel from tennessee, who ends up gracing us with fricative beats and pop friendliness... on * off superfast soared and wound into the earth... love tongue attack spit some croon.sweet rhymes and dom was the source of many shout outs...and the christ explosive riverside band (surprised me, was so glad)...auto da fe on a fantastic flyer...holy buffaglow we'll hear from soon...

a great night...one that reminds me (even as today we finally mop up the pixie stick sticky floor*) (*thanx snoel) community is stonger than ever...

really enjoyed this show so far, i'm working in my room, so i am hearing v. seeing mostly, but would like everyone who's played to return...

the casual lust (duo from sf who played last) hopefully returning to the il corral in late june...(bavab bavab will be on tour i think so it may be early july),...but soon regardless...her voice thrills castles in the sky then kicks down walls with some power from somewhere never flagging...i really want more people from la to hear them...

this was a still and attentive crowd night... singer.songwriter in many forms played, and it was all good... william and his 8track, the grunge gods, woolly mammoth (who i think really enjoyed the swinging rope)... and congratulations to john gake for kxlu sounds...

listening away from the actual performance sort of flattens the sound for me so i can hear it more thoroughly...otherwise i find myself looking at everyone watching what they're doing and hearing it, but it gets pieced up that way.... if i'm not watching, the listening takes over completely... i like to be right in the room though...then you're there physically absorbing the sound and giving back to the performer... ideally i could always do that... but i had a fabulous night listening so... can't complain
